The FIRST time this season that the side scoring first hasn't won the game in all competitions away from home, today being the 22nd away match we have played.

Played very well today and had several gilt-edged chances to win the game. Good balance to our play, and some real positive attacking intent in the second half. A goal away from a perfect away display. To my surprise we were comfortably the better team

1-1.
Judging by the commentary a fair result with us much better last 30 minutes or so, Revs might feel hard done by.
Need Luther back now with Freeman crocked. Good job we have 12 days break.

I hope so - Freeman looked really gutted coming off which suggests it could be a serious one. Hopefully not as he's done well filling in there.
Good performance today, we should have won against an in form side and we made them look pretty ordinary. Thought Roberts and Reid were both good, as was Kemp but that has come to be expected now. I hope he's here next year but wouldn't be surprised if one of the bigger L1 sides came in for him.
Only downside was the late subs, again. Revell must really not trust Young or Appere at the moment, although Young did look reluctant to do anything off the ball in his 10 mins

Sounded that way, but then Cooper had to make a smart stop or two.

Pidge had the key chance. I was ready to go *nuts*, but it didn't quite drop for him. Doh.
Btw, Pidge as normal was fantastic yesterday. People talk about signings... but WHAT A SIGNING that man has been. "Signing" kind of devalues our Pidge tbf. ATG more like. I even love his body language, especially when he interacts with the crowd. Proper man. *Love* the way he's thrived as he's stepped up the levels (while bodying Villa on the way!)
Yeah I'm a fan lol

Despite everyone loving him I think his importance and quality is still under rated. He plays almost every minute of every game, rarely puts in less than an 8/10 and has led us from being absolutely hopeless to secure in L1. And he puts his body - and usually his head - on the line for us every week. An absolute club legend

Wonder if Pidge's future involves coaching? He certainly knows how to improve, and sets a high standard for his team mates

Imagine Pidge having to coach lads half his age with double his ability and none of his application. It would be maddening.

Players who are punished for being shit and lazy in training by being kept on the bench for 85 minutes are then going to turn the game around in five minutes. It's science.

Jake Young is a bit of a managerial challenge
Clearly has talent, but also (allegedly) has issues with effort and application in training.
Do you
A. lower your standards to get him on the pitch where he can do good things, at the risk of a reaction from the rest of the squad along the lines of "we have to bust a gut every day in training to get in the squad or get a start, why doesn't he?"
B. Give him little tasters of match action as an incentive to improve his attitude?
C. Make him train with the kids and have weekends off until either his attitude improves or he can be moved on?
I like option B. Which it appears is what we are trying, a mix of carrot and stick. But it's a short term option, sooner or later we will have to stick or twist.

As I said in another post a couple of days ago, challenges are something that managers are paid to meet.
Allegedly he is our record signing. He clearly has ability. Equally clearly we don't see enough of it.
Revs insists we only sign players with the right attitude. So perhaps it's time to give Michael Flynn a call and find out what fired Young up at Swindon.
Personally I would like to see him start every game for the rest of the season. Then we can gauge his value in goals, not work rate.

That'd go down like a lead balloon with the squad players who bust a gut in training every day*.
Or they'd all adjust their effort levels to match Young's.
Not for me. If, after trying to work with him he still can't put in the graft, we get rid. We all want Revs to be a bit more ruthless at times.
Fact is, not all signings work out.
(*This whole debate of course assumes he is a poor trainer, which we don't actually know, we only hear the rumours)

Agree in principle. You've got to earn a start.
I should say that I have no idea if JY is a good trainer. I can only observe a couple of things. First, he was a *long* way from match fit when he joined, so he hadn't put hard yards in at Bradford's pre-season. (Injured?) Second, he does seem to doss about a bit while warming up!
He's not much of a worker/presser by inclination. While it's a mark against, there are plenty of brilliant CFs who have a similar style.
All that said, if I had to guess which one of our CF options would score more goals across a season, then I'd say it'd be JY.

This is my view too - I'd be willing to ignore the lack of work rate if he scores goals, and it's worth a try seeing as we seemingly have very little to play for, and it could mean avoiding wasting the £400k we (allegedly) spent on him

Not much point Kane Smith being at this club anymore. Always injured whenever we need him.

I neither saw nor heard the game today but 1-1 away at Reading sounds a decent enough result so no complaints. Was mildly amused to learn that Reading didn’t actually score themselves, but that it had taken the mighty Pidge to do all the scoring for both teams! Gotta do all we can to give them a chance against us I s’pose… 😁
