Revell's notebook

What is he writing down? He spent most of the second half making notes while everyone in the ground could see we needed to change the midfield. Leaving the changes until the 81st minute doesn't leave enough time for anyone to have a proper impact

One would imagine, points he wants to later refer to to give feedback to players and instruct them how to improve, or indeed what they did well.

Or could've been writing down things to post on Borochat under his disguise of Sludgy

He's putting faith in League One footballers to play passing football, like a decent Premier League side.

At times it works, but that final ball is rarely there. There's opportunities for our midfield to carry the ball, but instead they're clearly instructed to pass it around. The opposition can't score if we have the ball, right?

At the moment we're very much mid-table. I feel like we never know how we're going to play one game to the next. I think all the fans want is some attacking intent.

Quite happy with midtable League 1 if we play as we did against Wrexham and Exeter. Wouldn't always win playing that way but would keep us on tenterhooks.

Problem is we don't have any creativity in midfield on the bench. Its just soo frustrating to watch us huff and puff without knowing how to break them down. Very poor. Bern like this for a while now. Seriously don't think Revs knows how to change this.

I think we just needed a midfield today. White and Thompson were anonymous, didn't make themselves available and when they did get the ball they lost it, or went backwards. Phillips and King are far better options and surely everyone bar the coaching staff could see we needed a change earlier on

Absolutely no way he should be anywhere near our first choice cb pairing next year. How you can pick someone in that position that single handedly gifts goals to the opposition every week is beyond me.

I would say that when I have seen Goode he hasn't been as fantastic as people make out and think he was partly at fault for a couple of goals in a game I saw on TV and made a few other mistakes but thankfully didn't lead to goals.

So I'm a either/or type. Goode does have a long throw and not sure who is more a threat from corners but that could play a part in my decision too.

Sweeney is prone to an error but so are all our defenders, he seems to be unlucky that his mistakes lead to goals whereas others get away with it.

Goode can't do 2 games in succession it appears.

If he could he'd be in The Championship.

The alternative view being... Goode can play two in a row no problem, but we know far better than Revell who has played at a pro level, done all his badges, worked under lots of managers and seen them both in training week in week out?

Not having a pop but there will be a reason why Revell chooses o e over the other. He won't always get it right, but I'd trust his choices over mine, or yours, every time.

That is a perfectly reasonable conclusion based on the premise that Revs knows what he is doing.
Sadly (and I really mean sadly) there is mounting evidence to the contrary. I bloody hate Revball. It is so dull.
There are glimpses of a wonderful brave new world occasionally (such as at Wrexham) but for the most part our players are simply not good enough to play his kind of football. We go back, sideways, forwards, back, sideways...and then give the ball away. Week in, week out. We do.

He has got us mid table in League 1.

We have had two seasons with zero fear of relegation from this level and more than a smattering of hope we might get promoted sprinkled on top.

Not the greatest football. And unlikely IMHO to improve much under him.

But a lot of clubs would like to be us.

Personally I think we have to "put up" with mid table finishes for 3 or 4 seasons at a time. (I'm actually grateful for them rather than being in a relegation scrap).

Then every 4 or 5 years give it a go by spending a bit beyond our means, see how it goes, then back to mediocre for a few seasons to recover.

If we get a windfall from a transfer etc then reinvest that and go for it, or if a particularly season the League looks weaker in terms of sides then go for it.

No one has a problem with where we are in the table, albeit I expect us to be lower, given our run in. It's that 80% of performances are absolutely soul destroying to watch.

That's always been my criticism of this style. Dan Kemp aside we don't have as good players and never will have as the big sides.

So you either accept mid table and winning some and losing some with this style of football I personally don't like (unless against a crap side and everything clicks then it's nice), or you risk going in a different direction which could be better or worse.

My worry is IF we are spending above ours means currently how long can we sustain that, having so called better footballers but not resulting in anything more than you could get from a regiment of big strong and physical players, who would cost less.

But in terms of League position alone, more than happy currently.

My *perception* is that it's more likely to click against better sides who expect to beat us.

Otherwise I share your general sentiment.

Yeah that's true, or rather a side that also "plays attacking football". Sides that sit back, shut up shop and are solid etc we struggle against, which tend to be the sides that fear us.

Sides like Peterborough who don't give a shit tend to result in good spectacles and make us look good (even though we lost twice!)

I doubt it is his post match interview. This usually explains with some words emphasised - how the team needs to work TOGETHER, with COMMITMENT and put in HARD WORK.

It’s a bit mean to say - but the interviews are very similar with a load of tag words.
