It makes you wonder doesn't it.
Some of the nasty, hatred chants comiing out of the mouths of supporters, especially on the ET, is the route to an escalation of racist behaviour, in my book. Showing this hatred and awful language towards away supporters and anyone deemed to be our foe, even towards the ref and linesman, is just another catalyst.

It's a reflection on society as a whole. A consequence of the spread of misinformation and stoking divisions for clicks and advertising revenue.
Edit: A lot of people are also struggling and it's easier to find a scapegoat than look at the bigger picture.

Our club is not alone...its rife!
A quick google shows that Birmingham City, Leyton Orient and Charlton have the same racist challenges.
Its hard not to agree that its becoming more common.
It can only be a reflection on society today....a shame.

“There’s not a racism problem in this country mate, I just think white lives matter.”

Sorry I gathered from the replies to your post about the PA announcement at the home game that if a poster calls out something they didn't witness first-hand it makes them a shit-stirrer and a grass. Since I haven't seen this message I can assume the club are mistaken and accuse them of smearing themselves.

How do we know they were racist and not just quoting their favourite right wing politician?

Wow, this is a surreal conversation. Abuse of our player was rightly and unequivocally condemned by the club. If someone broke the law they should be dealt with. Unless someone saw the message in question we know nothing else, so there's really nothing else to say.
IRA songs, Tommy Robinson etc... silly folks trying to act tough. Again, if they overstep the line then they should be dealt with. (This is a bit less clear than the abuse of our player, I reckon. To anyone with a braincell this is clearly stupid and distasteful - I really don't like to hear it. But does it break any laws or rules?)

TBF to Ian H Watkins if Steps was dreadful when a certain other singer Ian Watkins got life for child abuse and H received hate mail.and messages.
PS not my taste, into punk, Goth and Rock
but Bee Gees were great songwriters.

It didn't help that a Google search for Ian Watkins back then threw up an image result of H from Steps, which could've been the fault of one of those pop news type websites.

It's not a Football Offences Act offence if it was a social media message.
Depending on content/context it is more likely to be malicious communication under the 2003 Communications Act, (with the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 as amended, creating the aggravating factor for sentencing purposes if the message was for example racist, as it would appear to be here).
Or inciting racial hatred.

Yes, HitchinBoros response was to the last part of the previous message about if saying fuck the pope and the IRA is acceptable
I'm not religious and I don't think the IRA did any good things, but I don't feel the need to sing about them at a football match

Yep. Realised that after I posted.
Altho' I'm more disappointed that no-one posted a STEPS / Bee Gees lyrical pun.

In all seriousness though, well said. I don't get why some idiots think we need that sort of crap being shouted at games.
