Approaching and trying to appoint somebody doesn't mean they accept the interview.

It is on the grape-vine Shrewsbury offered G..Ainsworth the managers job on condition he would get a free gig each month in there supporters club for his band.

May well have been waiting for a Championship/big L1 offer, but none has been forthcoming and is now getting bored/doesn't want to be out of the game much longer in case it threatens his prospects, as it has with other managers who took an extended period out.

So what you are saying is that he even when we were the only club wanting to speak to him, he'd still have rather remained unemployed.

We were likely not the only club wanting to speak to him, but he believed he could do better than those who did, at the time, and was pursuing other avenues.

If he had hung around until Christmas there is a cracking League One club in Hertfordshire who might well be looking for a manager... :)

Do you have any insight/theories as to why GA wouldn’t fancy a crack at us? I’d have thought we were quite attractive to him.

I think at the time having moved up from Wycombe to QPR (and failing) he probably saw us as a retrograde step and had a decent buffer in his back pocket so could afford to wait.
He gambled on a bigger job turning up, and it didn't for whatever reason.
Bit like Evans gambling on his return to Rotherham going great.

Evans and Raynor would be in line for a two-and-a-half year payoff mind, notwithstanding any performance-related contract clauses reducing this severance.
