Freemo's joke about Wallace selling up made me think?
All the effort Wallace puts in and the trauma he puts up with makes me wonder when he will stand down.
He like many of the Boro stalwarts have experienced great moments but for every great moment there has been many more bad times.
Why and how does he keep going?

How can there have been more bad times than good times if we are two divisions higher than we was when he started. That fact alone means there has been more good times than bad , three promotions, one relegation and great cup runs.
But I totally agree about his effort. He is the biggest reason for the clubs success and I feel he deserves so much more credit than he gets .

Yes I agree when you look at where we were and where we are now.
What I was trying to say was the bad times we all had to endure more so Phil Wallace than us. Poor managers, racial slurs on the club, battling with the League to stay in it. Great managers leaving the club etc.
What broad shoulders he has.

What broad shoulders he has.
To be fair, I imagine he's very well supported by his fellow board members and chief executives in terms of running the club. But the financial commitment for sure.

That’s par for the course for most football clubs. In PW’s tenure we’ve had a much better time of it than the majority of other FL and Conference clubs I’d say. All the while he’s been a steady hand too. Even when there have been bad times on the pitch we’ve never been in a position where the club could implode and that’s a huge testament to him.

3 promotions and a couple of play off seasons in 25 years, so about 20% good times and 80% bad times

Would you say that’s cup half empty?

Most fans have not forgotten where we have come from I would hope . I remember when the dream was to get into the same league as Hitchin Town let alone feeling despondent after playing a drawer against Reading . Fans will always want more but let’s not forget context. On this remembrance weekend let’s just remember every season we see our team in the football league is a season more than most of our clubs founders dreamed of or got to see .

It in no way cheapens the memories of those who died at war to use them as a stick to hit unhappy fans with.

Maybe a poor phrase or misunderstood the point . I used the reference to articulate remembering and reflecting back. My apologies you have taken the reference the wrong way .

You’re lucky. He only muted me. Thanks to twitter’s algorithms, I still get to see him going on about his bloody unheated paddling pool and the pies he’s made on my timeline. It’s like a very boring French version of the Darling Buds of May. But where Pa Larkin is a patronising sod.

The reason I disagree with this is i actually enjoyed going away to Wigan and getting a draw .against an ex premiership team who recently won the Fa Cup.
I also wasn’t disappointed with Burton away .
Neither of the above clubs are huge historically but beating Derby , Charlton , Wrexham ( with finances ) is a good thing.
I don’t think there are too many teams apart from us out of the 92 who are punching above their weight more than us .
I’d say Bournemouth and Brentford are ( both teams we have beaten in league football)- but name another one?

I don't disagree with you either particularly, but that's in league 1. We've had plenty of seasons lower midtable in league 2 and the conference.
Walk around the ground tomorrow and ask people if we're having a good season. You'll get more nonsense than yes's

I disagree.
And not being a good season doesn't mean it has been a bad season. There isn't only options of good or bad, and it isn't entirely determined just by the final league placing.

The amount of hate he gets from some fans despite making us a league 1 outfit is amazing.
But he won't go on forever I wouldn't be surprised in 2/3yrs if we've made ourselves a stable league 1 club he'd possibly see he's taken us as far as he can, The issue is who'd buy next unfortunately you see a lot more poor owners than good, People would want to see a millionaire owner in who spends loads and gets us in the Championship but how often does that work?
I personally don't want to see us get bought out Wrexham Style and become a Media club, Yes Wrexham are doing well and Ryan Reynolds is a legend, But I'd rather someone come in and invest but slowly build it we aren't set to go any higher yet so we'd need to Build off the field before we do on the field.

75 this year...3/4 of a century!
Even if his mind tells him he can run our club alongside his other businesses, energy levels reduce as you get older. So, surely there will be a time in the not too distant future where he will call it a day. It is inevitable.
As its been his baby for so many years, I'm sure he will think long and hard as to the next step in our clubs future.
A money injection into the club by a new owner would be helpful but too much money would be a recipe for disaster especially if the new owner gets fed up!
Watch this space but I'm sure Phil will do the right thing when he is ready.

Last season he was actively trying to sell a percentage of his shares but then later he injected another million in a share issue. His sons I think already have a minority shareholding , if they took over would they be as interested as PW in club ?

I think for us, if we can become an established L1 team, we need to just consolidate on the field and invest in infrastructure a bit more. That way we can realistically remain a L1 club for a long time and begin to think about growing to Championship level one day.
I appreciate, fans don't always want that as it gets a bit boring but from a business point of view it's a necessity.
