Pidge
Views: 1545
44 clean sheets in 100 league games. 48 wins in those 100 games. Utterly insane. Not to mention everything else he offers!
What more does he need to do from here in your view to reach Mark Roberts status? Or is he already there?— BoroStats (@_BoroStats) October 19, 2024

And he will now miss Rotherham on Saturday.
So of Wildin is back we are looking at a Butler-Freestone-Wildin-Smith backline. Ruhroh!

His Yellow last night.

Anyone notice the Cambridge player fall down and immediately another player of theirs was jumping around like a lunatic signalling a head injury to the bench. Others then crowded around the Ref. Turns out there was no head injury. It was almost as if it was planned to get Pidge sent off?

If there is official video evidence of this can't they consider a charge of bringing game in to disrepute.

They could in theory.
They never do.

And Louis now.
Gonna be naming kids on the bench.
If Roberts could also pick up a booking that would be the suspension full house on what is looking like a wonderful evening.

Be caretaker manager (twice).
Robbo also won the FA Trophy, became a league champion and played in the L1 playoffs for us.

But he didn't do that alone, and Pidge won't have the chance to do some of those things (Trophy or Conference, for instance).
I am still with Roberts, but by the end of this season, and especially if he leads us again next season, I don't see how Pidge isn't in the same conversation, unless things all fall apart.

Ah but I didn't say he wasn't worthy of being in the conversation.

Those are awesome stats. In a sense it is unfair to compare the two – maybe better to say they are head and shoulders the most influential players of their respective eras, who have given their all for the cause week after week after week.
It is impossible to overestimate Pidge's importance now. He holds the defence together through successive injury crises, scores crucial goals and is an inspiration every time he puts on the arm band.
If I had been in charge of Birmingham's £millions Pidge would have been my first signing. It is extraordinary to me that he is playing in League One for the first time in his career. What a player.

He's in League One because his distribution is awful. Great defender, but poor on the ball.

The point I was making, before you dived in with your negativity, is that he has spent almost all his career in League Two when clearly (distribution or not) he is a giant at League one level.

Tonight is an absolute prime example of why a bigger team haven't come in for him. Watch how often a move breaks down when he is in possession.

It's mad to me how when Pidge got a straight red for Oldham with four games to go all their fans went "Well that's the end of us", and they were bang on.

I don’t think he’ll ever reach Robbo status, but that’s a comment on Robbo more than Pidge. Pidge is absolutely in the club legend bracket.
As for why, I can’t actually put it in to words. In much the same way that the core players in that GWII side will always be more special than those in the squad that got us promoted from League Two under Evans.

Maybe if he presents series 2 of Stevenage Superstars?
For me personally I'm not sure he can eclipse Robbo barring something absolutely monumental like captaining us into the Championship. Robbo will always be the first to have captained us in the Football League, and he's so central to my memories of some of the biggest moments. I'll always remember him defying the police and wading through the Sheffield United fans to clap the away fans after the play-off defeat there, at what we all suspected was the end of an era.
I do think there's an argument for Pidge having been a better and more important player for us (especially as Bozzie was able to drop back in when Ash or Robbo was out), but in terms of his status as a Boro legend, still think he has a way to go.
