Where are our goals coming from? 2.0

I mentioned this the other week and no one took it seriously.

We’ve not scored an away goal in the league from open play all season.

Not scored away from home in 3 away games

Lowest scorers in the league.

Everything’s fine.

On the flip side we have also kept four clean sheets and only conceded five goals.

Generally we are very, very good defensively, despite the injuries. Pidge is the new Robbo. But we don't attack with either pace or purpose. Wigan could have subbed their keeper tonight for another attacker. There seems to be very little correlation between how Revs claims he is trying to play and what we are actually seeing.
Correct me if I'm wrong :)

And he’s right.

There’s room for improvement sure but some of our fans are acting like class A bell ends at the moment. It’s sad to see. I dread to think of what will happen if things get really bad.

Charlton have only won 1 of their last 4 league games, and that was 1-0 v Shrewsbury. Don't see a reason why we can't 'Barnsley' them Saturday

Wrexham didn't look anything special when Birmingham pulled their pants down last week

Maybe but they’ve won 3 of their last 6 league games and we’ve only won 1 of our last 6, Wrexham have 4 of their last 6.. I really hope we can do a 2nd half against Barnsley on both of them.. but I am not confident we will !

Lose one, draw one...Revs has learnt that a draw after a loss steadies the ship.
Maybe an awful display, but a good away draw is what the doctor ordered (an SE tactic).
Where are the goals coming from? Three scored in our last home game if my memory serves me right.

While it's true that we scored three goals against Barnsley at home, I believe the point being raised is a lack of confidence in our ability to score consistently throughout the season.

This concern seems to stem from our struggles to play attacking football and create enough chances. However, if I’ve misunderstood, I’ll defer to bcb1994 to further clarify their position.

Switch it round then...concentrate on scoring lots of goals without making the defence really solid...we risk leaking more goals than we score...is that preferable?
The other anomaly favouring the current way is we are waiting for our goal scorers to gel or come back from injury.
What would you choose over our managers choice?

I absolutely hate it when forwards soley get blamed for lack of goals. The supply to them from our midfield is also absolutely abysmal atm the moment. We may have decent stats defensively, but I would love to see the full picture, e.g. passing stats and how often we give the ball away cheaply or chances created from periods of possession.

No surprise our best performance came when we had our best technical players on the pitch. If we are now setting up not to get beat away, we simply have to do this in our home games.

This for me is the crux of the issue at the moment. The football isn’t the prettiest at the moment by any stretch but we are solid defensively and our number one keeper hasn’t played a minute of football yet this season.

Revs has to be given a chance to build on that defensive solidity. That can and will take time. He hasn’t been given a clean slate from his last spell by a lot of our fans and that’s contributing towards a bit of a toxic atmosphere around the place when there shouldn’t really be one.

He needs to be given time. If it goes awry then by all means move him on, but it’s far too early for all the doom mongering at present.

We've missed Luther, Kane, Sweeney, Goode and Butler during games this season, as well as TAH.

To still have the defensive record we have is pretty fucking spectacular given that we've played a few decent sides IMO.

Aside from TAH we were.very fortunate with 'first teamer' injuries under Steve.

And it still turned to shit around Xmas '23 once Steve's head was turned.

We have no god given right to expect top third finishes given our size and what we can pay in wages relative to the rest of L1.

Passing stats aren't that useful.

Against Man City Arsenal had two outfield players Havertz in midfield and the RB Timber(sp?) who didn't complete a single pass in the entire game

And Arsenal did OK.

Against City though, with 10 men 😉. I get that argument though. I also hate passing for passings sake, but if we aren't good enough to do it consistently and insist on having certain players in the team, then perhaps we need to be going more direct, especially away from home. It's too easy to play against us atm.

Four of the seven sides we have played against have failed to score, with another only scoring from a penalty.

Doesn't suggest it is very easy.

Maintaining a solid defense is crucial, but the focus should now shift towards improving our attacking play to create better scoring opportunities. That seems like the most realistic solution unless I'm missing a point here and there's another solution to this which perhaps could be shared.

Agree with you and I don't think you are missing the point. You have nailed it! Revell isn't that naive to not be aware of what we are all witnessing. Its a certainty he and the team are working nonstop to put this right.
As a lot of people are saying, its far too early to be concerned. So at the moment its " steady as she goes".

If we find ourselves in the relegation zone by Christmas, I believe that would be the right time to consider a managerial change. However, if we're comfortably in mid-table with a significant points gap between us and the relegation places, then I think it's fair to say Revell deserves more time. Only time will tell how things will unfold.

Anything above 18th he's probably done enough. Just would hope to make games a bit more enjoyable as a spectacle! It's bloody hard going atm. The only exception was the Barnsley second half, that's not really good enough!

A 4-3 or 3-2 defeat is entertaining.
