Just wondered what year did the admins create this forum? I remember reading it as early as 2003. I remember every evening the first thing I'd look on when logging on the Internet was Borochat and remember some names on here that no longer post.

Me and MarkE (Miss Europa and JaSpEr) set this place up in 2002. Much missed posters IMO include BoroGent, Dippers and Mook.
Oh, and GLENN WATSON.

I think it was JaSpEr (MarkE) and Miss Europa (Pete) who originally began it so you'll have to hope one of them sees this and can provide some answers.
I think this particular version of Borochat forum started in 2015 when Hoagy (conf forum/Yeovil fan) stopped providing the old one and we moved to footballwebpages.

The people who provide this forum refused to host them because they were such a bunch of bellends any more so they had to find a new place for it.
It's now one of those where you have to click into each topic etc rather than one long list of threads you can scroll down. I can't remember what the technical terms for them are.
If we are ever forced to one of those I will resign, as can't be arsed trying to navigate round those.

I just had a look - that's all changed! My old login doesn't work any more, I'm not sure I'll worry about re-signing up.
I'm sure that layout has its merits, but guess we just got used to this way which works for a (relatively) small active membership.
I'm in a few discord servers and that's a different setup again, then there's Facebook groups (although I hardly go on Facebook any longer).

Given that most message boards/forums are that format and this is one of the last around like this, I'm assuming the consensus is that type is much better, but it's not for me.

Yeah probably is, I think this layout is fine with a core of 20ish (guessing) posters

It's done well to survive this long.
What with all the cool kids on Discord-Twitch, MySpace and InstaTikTok-XGram

Football twitter is a mess of spammy bot accounts and opposition fans trolling each other constantly.
At least on here we get real content, like the Monday Lunch Thread or whatever.

I much prefer this “message board” style. If a sub-thread is going off on a tangent you can just choose to ignore those posts and read around them. On the more common type of forum you have to scroll through all the waffle and guff to get to the content you actually want to see.

There's probably an option to hide threads on those boards too. The benefit of them is that new posts show at the top, whereas on here they don't, so people keep posting the same stuff over and over if they don't scroll down and check all the other threads, and it's easy to miss new stuff posted on old threads here.
The problem with new posts bringing the whole thread to the top is that you get 'Message for Borogent' situations

There is on the few I’ve frequented but I was referring more to the ability here to choose to not read sub-threads when you see they’re going off on a tangent rather than clicking a button to ignore a thread completely.
On the kind of forum where every post on a thread appears linearly you have to scroll through everything on the thread, including all the stuff you’re not interested in.
On those kinds of forums generally a new post will also bring a thread to the top of the page regardless of when the thread was started too.
There are of course benefits too such as being able to reply en masse to different posts by quoting etc. but I think the system we have here is infinitely better for this forum.

You can "collapse threads" in the option and then it sort of works like the other style.
So when there is a new post it would bring that collapsed thread to the top (if you have it set to show latest at the top) and you can click into it to view all.

To be fair, the team has been known to veer a long way from football, so its probably all still relevant. 😊

Ah thanks for the information.
The old version was much better back then when we were a conference club and always enjoyable to read.
