Jake Young Done
Views: 1508
Bradford fans distinctly nonplussed and critical of his attitude, Swindon fans however think he's the greatest player they've had in years.
His recent record is bloody good and rhe fact his best form was alongside Kemp bodes well.
A properly exciting signing for our level. Farley won't have slept a wink.
Clearly we are right on the edge of our SCMP so need to be really careful financially. Would think we will offload a player or two in January to give us breathing space.

I'm surprised that we didn't ship a forward out at the same time as getting two in.

I presume the thinking was not to ship anyone out while Reid was still unavailable.

Anyone know what is actually wrong with BGR. Feels a bit odd?

Surely our best ever transfer window...including moving on a triplet. Given how many games he played in the Championship he was one of the few Evans disappointments. Tad surprised we haven't moved List out as well as he will be a long way down the pecking order when/if everyone is fit. Revs has the kind of hand we could only dream about a couple of years ago.

This is fantastic, a really exciting signing. We've got a goalscorer, now just need to give him some service!
Got to say that Revs' poker face was impressive during yesterday's Deadline Day interview. Gave nothing away ;-)
Spent the evening thinking about what kind of side I'd pick. It's getting harder, as the squad is now so deep. Key for me is getting Kemp on the ball centrally, around the 'D'. Also keen to see Goode. Probably means 5-3-2, with dual pivot of Phillips/Thompson and White/King. Apere* partners Young to stretch the game. [*Reidy comes in when fit.] Diamond is obvious alternative.
Hard, isn't it?!

Being nonplussed and critical is a pre-requisite for being a Bradford fan – if not being from Bradford itself.

It has been interesting to see our model change in recent years, from never paying for a player to doing so regularly for young players we believe have potential to give us a good return on our investment.
Taye, Goode, Freestone, White, Simpson, Pressley, Young have all been paid for in the past year.
I guess it is needed to compete at this level nowadays and free transfers won't cut it, but it does make me anxious at the same time. Although I don't for a second believe PW would risk anything financially.

My worry is that we seem to be thinking that our goalscoring issues are weighed firmly at the feet of our forwards. I feel the problem starts a little further back than that.

Not sure I would agree.
Look at the very very good chances we have created this season already, and wasted. Put away some of them and things look very different.
Burton is the only game I haven't been to, but if we didn't create much in that game then it is the only one, we created plenty of good chances in the other four.
Edit: Which isn't to say we can't create more, or that the midfielders cannot add goals, of course, but creating chances hasn't been much of an issue this season IMO. Last season it absolutely was.

On your last point we must be on the edge of cap and assume just helped by loans in being no salary paid by us and B Thompson out was high earner .
PS assume Young signed too late to.pkay today, possibly 5pm cut off.

Phil mentioned in his programme notes that we needed to move a couple on to free up wages and stay on the right side of the line.
As Chuds says its a new way of operating for us to actually be regularly buying players.

Also heaps the pressure on Revs even more, from both board and fans.
The board has heavily invested and you would assume won't be content with simply surviving.
And the fans seem to now believe Young is the solution to all of our goalscoring problems, despite only having one good half season in his career so far, so will be far more expectant.

Do you think this is more an acknowledgement of the league this year and the board knowing that in order to avoid the threat of relegation, we needed to invest and in particular, investing up front.
It would be an oversight to not have learned from the last time we were in L1. It was a very similar curve with us ultimately getting relegated after a few seasons and then almost dropping out of the EFL alrigether.
I also think it was probably a tactic from PW to continue to lowball and get the best possible price for Young as it seemed obvious that we were heavily involved

I guess there's scope to loan or sell a player to the National League as that's not bound by the same transfer window restrictions?
Not that anyone would be particularly tempted to drop down there.
