Well it sounds like we were crap first half, Revs changed things up early and we were much improved.
Promising signs as our game plan last season was to lump the ball into the channels and if that doesnt work, just keep doing it, but try and do it better.

I never understand why we don't just put our best XI on the pitch from the start and give teams a game. All this trying to nullify the opposition stuff just seems to nullify us as well. I'd rather lose trying to have a go, than sitting back hoping to sneak a set piece, and still losing.

We didn't sit back and try to nick it from a set piece.
And you cannot just play your best XI every single game, players need games off. Plus your best XI against one team absolutely isn't your best XI against another, that isn't trying to nullify them, it is trying to utilise your weapons best to exploit their weaknesses.
Very few people didn't agree with our starting line-up on Saturday.

I agree.
Hopefully Revs will see it the same way.
Whilst we are never going to dominate Huddersfield or the likes for 90 minutes, we certainly have the ability to dominate in periods, just need to take those chances when they come.

Most people before the game were happy with our team, but the performance wasn't up to it first half.
Credit to Revs, he didn't wait but made the change at HT. And it should have had an immediate impact, but List put an open goal wide (we won't have a better chance all season) after great work from Appere, and then Appere missed a one-on-one. Then a couple of minutes later and they scored from their first attack of the half. Appere then missed another one-on-one a few minutes later. And Harvey deserved a goal after his pre-season and start to the season. A nice penalty.
Huddersfield look a Championship side and will be right up there this season, and very few teams will get anything from them at their place this season.
I have seen signs of positivity in all three matches so far, and plenty to show Revs has learnt a lot since last time around. Not worried in the slightest.
Time for dinner and a pint, and then the journey home. Up the Boro'!

[Huddersfield look a championship side] Well, their obviously not because they were relegated last season. Teams get relegated for a reason. Thought they were quite ordinary tbh. Our lacksidaisical defending gifted them 2 goals, not much else there to be scared of for future opponents.

Not in my estimation. Even at half time I felt they were there for the taking. And if you watched the second half they should of been taken. I dont think it's harsh to say a decent striker tucks away two goals prior to their goal.

Judging by your match report here Chuds I think it's fair to say that Huddersfield were lucky to win and we were unlucky not to come away with the 3 points as List missed one chance and Appere missed 2 great chances. Onwards and upwards. How many boro fans attended today ?

Nah, Huddersfield were easily the better side and fully deserved to win. And very much took it easy after going two up.
But in terms of very chances created, we matched them, if not bettered them. And will need to be far more clinical against the better sides so we aren't punished.

Our xG was again more than our actual goals indicating a problem with converting chances.
Of course we didn't need xG to know that, we could have just watched the game.

We were never getting 3 points out of that, I felt they could have raised their game again if needed. But if List scores, it makes it very interesting. Appere deserves to start the next game based on that performance.

Home to Shrewsbury, probably one of the easiest games which you'd expect to win (and we did).
Away to Huddersfield, probably one of the toughest games where you'd not expect to get much (and we don't look like we will get anything).

Overall a better second half showing after giving them way too much respect first half.
If we score one of those chances at 1-0 (List has to) it's a different game.

This is awful, no creativity, no movement off the ball. We look at least a league apart in terms of quality, with too many players not up to standard.
Can't tell if they are very good, us very bad or a bit of both.
Why, oh why do we have everyone camped on our 6 yard box when defending corners 1-0 down? It's suicide.
Fucking despair if we have to watch Sweeney every week.

Watch the highlights from yesterday and tell me he isn't at least partly at fault for both goals. Never, ever seems to follow his runner.
Getting a bit concerned how many goals are coming from attacks down our left. I actually thought Butler did ok yesterday, but this would suggest something isn't right.

Nobody in the defence covered themselves in much glory for either goal. To pinpoint Sweeney would be wrong (although he was definitely part of the failure on the whole).
We do look vulnerable to balls whipped across the six yard box in particular. That could be attributed in part to the lack of pace in the centre backs. That makes it important for the full backs to stop crosses at source.

Re: Match thread - Huddersfield (A)

Missing Taye won't help with that, as him and the defence have a great understanding and his communication and organisation is superb.
Plus we have a new CB and a CB/FB being eased into the team alongside the new keeper, so it will take a little while to get that understanding. And before anybody says about TvC, his new defensive unit has conceded ten times in three games.
Plus most sides in L1 won't be as dangerous as Norwich. Hernandez and Sainz are very good players (annoyingly the two I picked out in the pub pre-match and said we need to watch, then they scored three between them).
Slightly concerned about us defensively, but not worried.

On rhe wireless.Deano commented that Pidge and Sweenz had words and gesticulated at each other a few times.
Not unusual but indicative of a lack of shared understanding of defensive tactics and roles.

Re: Match thread - Huddersfield (A)

I thought there was a clear lack of communication between the CBs early in the game, crossing over each other quite regularly, not knowing when to attack the ball and not passing men on or following runners. But that is to be expected when it is the first time they've played together. I'm sure it is something they will work on in training if we intend on playing 5 at the back and will improve over time
I also think the full backs need to do better in attempting to stop the cross coming in, evident for the opening goal yesterday

Re: Match thread - Huddersfield (A)
A CB should *never* rely on pace to defend a cross, if you are running back at pace you are facing your own goal and have already lost the defensive advantage.
It's about coaching and tactics, making sure you either impact the opposition players attacking the ball, or attack the ball yourself.
Something Pidge generally does superbly, because he's usually read the danger and is starting from rhe right position.
Luther used to struggle few seasons back because he didn't anticipate, Sweeney sometimes struggles because he switched off and didn't track the threat.
That's not to say we don't need pace at the back.

It seems like the majority of fans haven't been enthusiastic about AR's return as manager, especially given his previous tenure. Personally, I don't have anything against him, but I just don't rate him as a football manager.
As I mentioned last week, I won't be attending games this season. This decision to bring him back as manager has really dampened my enthusiasm.
All I hope for is that we avoid relegation.
