With one season left on his contract and an offer of more than we valued him it can only be seen as good business.
He’s been a good servant to the club and I wish him well but I don’t feel like a massive brick has been pulled out of the wall on the eve of the season. We’re well covered at CB.
Everyone has a price, it would have been short sighted to not let him go because it’s Burton considering he made it clear he’d be off for free in the summer anyway.

He has improved massively in the time that Evans was in charge. He might have left on a free two years ago, so I guess we should call this good business. But I do think he is one of our best 3 or 4 players, and one of the few whose best days aren't behind him.

I wish the guy well he’s been a great professional for us. He’s been through the highs and some very lows with us but the one thing that sticks out is he’s never been the first name on the team sheet type player.
I certainly wouldn’t say legend, he’s been a terrific servant and a great pro but to put him in the same bracket as Gitts, Bazza, Robbo amongst others is a push.
500k if true is certainly worth more to us than a potential non 1st choice center back

7 years, more than 200 appearances, and was for a while there our best defender.
Just for sheer longevity he's got to be up there.
By comparison Moro made 127 appearances, Bostwick 195 appearances, Boyd 111, and Robbo 191.
Is he up there as one of our greatest defenders? Nope. Definitely put him behind Pidge, Robbo, Ronnie, and some of the others we've had.
But how many Boro players have exceeded 200 appearances?
Ronnie and Day come to mind but struggling to think of too many others.
For a club of our size and level that many appearances is a rare thing and deserves respect.

14th out of how many players?
Is he one of our best ever defenders? Nope.
Was he total crock and completely forgettable? God no.
He's been in our defence for 7 years, and quite a bit of that time one of our most important players at the back (when not injured).
I think being a club 'legend' isn't just about what you contribute to the club but also longevity and loyalty. Look at someone like Mark Noble at West Ham. Solid player and dependable but won nothing as a player and there were definitely better players that wouldn't be called a 'legend' at the club.
I'm not getting carried away. He's down a long list of legends. But he deserves respect and we've got more than 20-30 club legends in our history. So yeah I'd put him maybe in the top 30 to 50 (remembering that there will be a bunch I'm too young to remember).

I haven't said he doesn't deserve respect, nor hasn't been a great servant, but he isn't ever near the reckoning of club legend status in my eyes. You need to stand above the rest and be in a very special class for that.

For me it’s football evolution, he’s been here 7 years as we all know stay in the same place for too long and things go stale. Sell while your stock is high and this summer with a club with money is probably the peak of his value.
The last couple of summers we have been worried about loosing him for free and we are in the same position next summer.
He’s given us 7 good years he’s always been a model pro, yes he’s had his injuries but it seems right for both clubs and him. He will get a pay rise we get some revenue to keep things ticking over and hopefully some fresh blood in the door to help kick on this season.

"League One and League Two Clubs follow the Salary Cost Management Protocol (“SCMP”) These state that Clubs can only spend a fixed percentage of its revenue on player wages etc. This limit can also be added to or impacted by equity injections..."
Haven't looked at it in great detail but it appears, for League One, only restriction is on players costs (wages etc) being no more than 60% of turnover plus 100% of "football fortune" No restriction on transfer fees.
The SCMP Requirement is a measure whereby a Club’s Player Related Expenditure (as defined in Appendix B) shall not exceed the sum of:
60% of the Club’s Relevant Turnover (as defined in Paragraph 1 of Appendix A) for the Reporting Period, plus
100% of the club’s Football Fortune Income (as defined in Paragraph 2 of Appendix A) for the Reporting Period
