Spain v England

I think England will peak tonight. I’m going for a 3-1 England win.
Kane x2
Saka.

Was expecting it.
He turned England around from being same old players regardless of form, a camp that no one enjoyed and a shitty environment to being a group of young players, picking in form players and where everyone got along and enjoyed playing for England which has made a huge difference.
Two finals, a semi final, a quarter final and a bright future ahead.
He leaves England in a far better place than when he arrived.
Different people define success differently but that is a successful period for me. We are still on the journey to the trophy. The new manager shouldn't be a reset button (like was necessary when Southgate joined) but instead a great opportunity to build on the progress we have already made.

If we win the next tournament I don't think that will prove the moaners right. (Unless the new guy is so radically different it's unrecognisable). Southgate has done all the leg work and set it up nicely for someone just to come in and take all the glory, with a fresh but not drastically different approach.

Spain deserved to win, best team in the tournament. No real consolation mind.
Feels like a kind of Pochettino and Spurs moment for Southgate and England. Left England in a much better place than when he came in, however, so close but yet so far.

Feels like a Kane moment, one of our greats to win absolutely fuck all domestically and internationally, think he walked under a ladder every other day not to win at least one.

Constantly playing Harry Kane when he offered nothing and looked about 50% of his normal self I blame him for.
Maximising the length of our involvement in competitions I commend him. Best manager we have had in my lifetime.
Time for him to go though I feel. Achieved all he can and worth giving someone else a shot to see if they can match him.
We lost to the best team in tournament, who haven't lost a game.

If I'm the England manager and I can clearly see that we need to drop the guy who is England's captain, all time top scorer and just got 35 goals in a top European league, I'm still looking for any excuse not to.

Think you've answered your own question.
He's be poor, but a major part of the problem is he is playing to a Southgate system that doesn't suit him.
You either change the system to accommodate him or drop him.

Yeah that's the trouble. He couldn't really do anything other than take him off in the second half as it's a no win situation. Don't play him and everyone will quote those stats.

The whole coaching setup needs a shake up.
If they can sit there and not see that set up tonight was never going to work, I am seriously worried.
Still the FA couldn't bloody wait to offer him another contract.

I think Jürgen Klopp should be manager.
I'm not sure if people think I'm joking when I say that but I'm being serious. Track record of winning, plays exciting football, knows the English game. Left Liverpool due to the workload, so international management should suit him as would be less intense day to day (other than during tournaments).
Downside is he's German.

All the 'scouse not English' twats would explode.
But, whilst I'd prefer an English manager, I'd be speaking to him to see if he's available because he's a better option than Frank Lampard, Eddie Howe or Wayne Rooney.

Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have shown themselves to be struggling managers in their recent tenures.
Rooney's stint at Birmingham was disappointing, and I expect his time at Plymouth will be similarly short-lived, likely not lasting more than 10 games before the board realizes he's not the right fit. Lampard, on the other hand, failed to deliver at Chelsea and struggled significantly at Everton.
Given these records, appointing either of them to manage the England national team would be a major step backward.

I think most people will want an English manager which makes it a very tough appointment. I don't think club records are particularly useful for international football.
As said above Southgate didn't have success at club level but has had unbelievable success with turning England into a genuine trophy winning contender.
Eddie Howe seems the obvious one but doesn't inspire me with huge confidence of being able to take that final step.
Stuart Pearce has had experience with England U21s....

Another one that's all much the same. Capable but don't see him as having any wow factor or anything that makes him any better than what we have.
But then much the same might be all we need with a fresh outlook, as two finals, a semi final and a quarter final and a 63% win rate over 100 games is pretty sensational given the 50 years prior we did next to nothing in any tournament bar 96.

I don't mind a foreign manager but I've heard Big Sam say we can't go back to having a "foreigner" and he is of the people.
Would prefer one who can speak English quite fluently though. Capello was annoying.

John Stones knee cap is why we lost.
If Maguire had been playing he have been a yard slower and their man offside and thus we would have won the Euros in ET.
This cannot be disproved.

All going to plan.
Kept Spain quiet. Can't quite get the attacking flow at the moment, Saka looking the most likely threat.
Same again second half and nick a goal would be perfect. 🤞🏻
Of course the risk here is Spain will change things up before Southgate does, and we won't take the initiative to win it if it stays nil nil and be happy to just keep going to the end.

It's a completely different set up though, in terms of who is marking who. We had three cbs effectively marking one player. Which is why the rest of the team were/ still are getting sucked back.
Edit. same problem area once again. Oh well, just give him another contract...

He frustrates me so much, because I know he can pop up and score a goal at any point but it's all the "what could have beens" that annoys me.
Having someone with pace who will run towards their goal rather run towards our own goal will give Spain something to think about, but most importantly we need to maintain a solid defensive unit.

Yeah I don’t buy into the “poor Kane” narrative. There’s a reason he hasn’t won a trophy. One of the best goal scorers out there for sure, but take Spain’s Morata. Equally subbed off, but ran his socks off putting our back line under pressure.
Kane hardly broke into a sprint all game and for what, one blocked shot? He also hasn’t won an aerial duel all tournament.
