It's not crucial, it's all relative.

Yes we'd have less capable.players in L2 due to costs, but so do the majority of other clubs.

We'd have a top third L2 budget I'd guess so we'd likely be better off in terms of wins.

Whereas in L1 our budget is probably stretching to reach mid table most of the time so we have to overachieve against bigger spending more attractive (from recruitment perspective) clubs to achieve a playoff push.

Not that it's a good argument for getting relegated.
