The Alliance Premier League was formed in 1979 & became the 5th division. Automatic promotion didn’t come in until 1986/87 when Scarborough were champions.

The teams that won the division but were not voted into the league were Altrincham, Runcorn, Maidstone, Wealdstone and Enfield.

Maidstone did make it into the football league eventually but none of the others have been promoted.
